A world-class, leading manufacturer of chemical additives is looking for an experienced Synthetic Polymer Chemist to join their team in Oxfordshire. The ideal candidate will have hands-on R&D experience in polymer synthesis and radical polymerisation techniques from industry.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

• Apply established and novel polymerisation methodologies to design and synthesise next generation component materials
• Act as technical lead and focal point for polymer synthesis
• Develop a variety of materials from gram to multiple kg scale
• Support and advise on synthetic routes and experimental set-ups to deliver materials in a time-efficient manner
• Prepare a variety of materials and be the focal lead for chemical outsourcing
• Drive safety initiatives, deliver risk assessments and consistently demonstrate the highest standards of safety and quality
• Provide design solutions to a variety of programs to help solve current and future capability challenges
• Provide leadership and supervision, as well as coaching and mentoring to laboratory-based chemists

Ideal Skills and Qualifications:

• PhD in Synthetic Polymer Chemistry; or relevant industrial experience
• Proven experience in (controlled) radical polymerisation techniques and post-polymerisation modification approaches
• Excellent track record of delivering materials to aggressive timescales in a fast-paced R&D environment
• Working knowledge of cationic, anionic, emulsion and/or condensation polymerisation highly desirable
• Proven supervisory/management and coaching experience
• Strong safety focus including networking, communication, delivering high standard risk assessments
• Ability to troubleshoot and implement creative solutions to technical problems
• Experience with surfactants, polymers, lubricants or additives would be highly advantageous
