RTVE.ES / AGENCIAS 30.04.2009 - 06:13 hel swine influenza virus, - 'new flu', as recommended by the European Commission, continues to appear in new countries hours after the WHO has risen to the level 5 Alert-on a scale of 1 to 6 - before the impending pandemic. Peru has registered the first case in South America and Switzerland, confirmed another infection, adding to the list.

Mexico has confirmed a fatality (and eight) and the infection of 91 people, which has prompted the Government to suspend the work in public administration from next Friday and May 5. Health Secretary, Miguel Angel Cordova, has ensured that basic services will remain operational.

Obama has not closed the border

Despite the United States has recorded the first fatality due to the H1N1 virus (a baby in Texas), the president Barack Obama has announced that it will keep open the border with Mexico. In his view, close the border now "would be like closing the stable door after the horses have escaped."

During a news conference, Obama has indicated that the swine flu "is a cause for concern but not panic."

The president has appealed to people to make recommendations for GP. "Wash your hands after shaking hands, cúbranse mouth when you cough ... If you're sick, stay home. If your child is sick, he carried to school," he advised.

U.S. have already confirmed 91 cases. Hundreds of schools have closed for safety and emergency rooms of hospitals in the southern border recorded a notable increase in the number of patients.

Restrict flights

Peru, after the first case of South America, has decided to suspend all commercial flights to Mexico. Ecuador has also restricted travel, adding to the measure that had already taken a preventive Argentina and Cuba.

According to WHO, there are 148 cases of swine flu in the world officially confirmed by laboratories: 91en United States, 26 in Mexico, 13 in Canada, three in New Zealand, four in Spain, five in the United Kingdom, two in Israel, one in three in Germany and Austria.
