JOB OFFER Group Leader - Mechanistic Cellular Assays, Lead Discovery OFERTA DE TRABAJO

We are offering a unique opportunity to join our team in the Roche Innovation Center Basel.

The Lead Discovery (LD) department in Pharma Research and Early Development initiates and supports Small Molecule research projects by identifying chemical starting points and by providing key data and insights for their successful optimization in Medicinal Chemistry. We are a tightly knit community of many and diverse talents, closely collaborating with our therapeutic areas and other functions.
We are seeking a committed and seasoned scientist to lead the Mechanistic Cellular Assays group designs, develops and utilizes cellular assays for screening and compound optimization purposes. A particular focus of the group is the selection of suitable cellular models and the use of mechanistic cellular assays to measure target engagement and to translate biochemical potency and molecular mode of action into cellular function.
As the leader of this group:
  • You are accountable for the overall output of the team in terms of quality and quantity; from design to experimental execution to reporting, ensuring readiness of assays for medium- to high-throughput screening campaigns and for routine profiling
  • You ensure continuous improvements in scientific and technical approaches
  • You lead a team of cellular assay experts while actively working in the laboratory, fostering self-organized work, continuous learning, a growth mindset and an atmosphere of mutual support within the team and across the pRED organization
  • You coach scientists and associates in project planning and execution, ensuring excellence in data analysis and interpretation, and focus on key scientific questions
  • You apply personal expertise in cross-functional drug discovery project teams to drive project strategy and selection of screening and profiling assays
  • You represent LD in project teams in order to ensure seamless exchange of information with internal and external stakeholders from Medicinal Chemistry, DTAs or CROs
  • You coordinate and have close alignment of work with therapeutic area experts and functions as well as with external partners
  • You stay abreast of emerging cell biology technologies and assay readouts. Evaluation and implementation of technologies, methodologies or platforms to advance the discovery portfolio
What else are we offering?
We are dedicated to supporting our staff in the development of their knowledge and skills and offer further career opportunities where people demonstrate talent and aptitude.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a professional with a PhD in biology or a related life science. You will have more than 5 years of experience in pharma industry with solid overall understanding of the drug discovery process. In addition, you bring:
  • Strong hands-on experience in cellular assay development and screening with technical proficiency with standard assays (e.g., proliferation, imaging, luminescence-/fluorescence-/FRET/BRET-based cellular readouts, flow cytometry) in primary and cultured cells
  • Ability to apply cellular biology expertise across a range of therapeutic disease areas
  • Deep knowledge in assay automation and the constant improvement of technical and data analysis workflows
  • Excellent coaching skills across a wide range of groups from lab to scientific community to team leads, enabled by a deep understanding of the drug discovery process. Excellence in project planning and prioritization
  • Highly developed negotiation and influencing skills at the interfaces to DTAs, functions and external partners, with the flexibility to adapt in style to different types of settings and discussions from initial contact to debating shared goals, tradeoffs and tough decisions
  • A keen eye for new opportunities in drug discovery and own area of technology expertise, coupled with unbiased judgment of risks and return on investment
  • Authentic leadership and ability to effectively lead a team of scientists and individuals in a matrix organization
  • Understanding of what motivates others to perform at their best. Clearly convey objectives and develop people through constructive feedback and encouragement
  • Ability to enable teams to achieve results, to align organizational resources in a dynamic environment to accomplish objectives, and to build alliances and strengthen interfaces with key stakeholders
