Russian scientists are able to create flu vaccine California 04/2009, called pigs, in three months, said today the director of the Institute of Influenza, Oleg Kisiliov, interviewed by RIA Novisti.
"We developed vaccines annually, based on the influenza virus A (H1N1), traditional for Russia. Currently, the task is to adapt to the new strain of high virulence. We pledge to develop a candidate vaccine in three months," he said.
The swine flu was detected in eleven countries: Mexico, USA, United Kingdom, Israel, New Zealand, Canada, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Holland. The fatal outcome was recorded only in the U.S. and Mexico. The World Health Organization yesterday raised the level of pandemic threat from fourth to fifth in the six-grade scale.
Previously, the director of the Institute of Virology of the Academy of Sciences of Russia, Dmitri Lvov, said that "in the best case scenario" the swine flu vaccine would result in about six months.
