WHO calls on the world to prepare for an influenza A more severe and more deaths

* The World Health Organization says there is so little information.
* With the advent of winter, the virus could cause more deaths.
* In the world at this moment there are 1168 people infected.


"Countries should be prepared for more severe infections of H1N1 and to influence more deaths due to disease." The director of the World Health Organization, Margaret Chan, made these statements at the close of the World Health Assembly, held in Geneva and ended Friday.

According to Dr. Chan, countries where "the H1N1 virus is spreading and circulating within the community at large should expect more cases of gravity." What seems to worry the WHO is that the arrival of winter will help the virus to mix with other, mutate and exchange genetic material.

For all this, it has insisted that the countries of the developed world must act quickly to improve its surveillance of influenza A, which until now has caused mild symptoms in most patients but may cause more severe cases as it spreads.

Pandemic and infected

Regarding the level of pandemic alert, the director of the WHO has said that high 5 to 6, is a decision taken after extensive consultations and rigid criteria. A month after they detected the first cases of influenza A, the number of infected in the world is 11,168, of whom 86 have died.

So far the most affected countries are United States, with 5764 cases, Mexico, in 3892 and Japan with 294.
