According to a study by the University of Berkeley (California), electric cars will dominate U.S. roads in 2030, with 86% market share. The company Better Place is developing a system of charging batteries of electric cars similar to prepaid mobile phone cards.
Thus, a family would buy an electric car, but ownership of the battery would be Better Place, which could offer other alternative batteries according to the needs of autonomy.
In Europe, industry executives have made clear that the next five years are key to the rebirth of the electric car, with accelerated commercial launch programs that will open a new battle for market leadership.
The most ambitious among manufacturers is the president of the alliance Renault-Nissan, Carlos Ghosn, who presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show, under the signature of Renault, four electrical concepts with the idea of going on sale in 2010 with at least two of them, and with the strategic goal to lead this new market with a large park in 2015.
The first to make an appearance in 2011, will be the Kangoo, the Fluence, a four-door hatchback compact segment, and Wizy, a city separated from the carrier wheels and 2013, Zoe, utility four meters for four passengers.
Peugeot, Citroen and Opel they hone their electric versions
Peugeot recently announced an agreement that will market the i-MIEV Mitsubihi, already on sale in Japan, as Peugeot i-ON, a small utility 3.48 meters long, with four doors and four seats. Its engine, all electric, 65 hp and a range of 128 kilometers.
Can be recharged in two ways: a full reload of six hours and can be performed in any conventional outlet, or a quick 80% capacity, which is done in 30 minutes but only in special high-voltage plugs. And, later, attention to the study of urban electric vehicle, including scooters and tourism, called Baby One, 2.5 meters long and equipped with two electric motors that provide the user with lithium ion batteries, a range of 120 km.
The sister brand, Citroen, the concept has volte Re, a hybrid diesel-electric plug, which is the basis of hybrid marketed from 2011.
Opel strike with the Ampera (European variant of the Chevrolet Volt), tourism of extended-range electric propulsion that uses only a small heat engine to charge the batteries. The Ampere, in 2011, is in the test phase of the lithium batteries, which provide a range of up to 60 km in pure electric propulsion.
