Electric invasion continues. Opel has produced three prototypes of its small Meriva minivan driven by this energy.

The cars are about to begin testing in Germany. The development of this variant is part of MeRegioMobil project is being funded by the German Ministry of Economics and Technology.

The plan aims to improve infrastructure and the integration of electric cars. The German region of Baden-Württemberg will pioneer the widespread introduction of charging points for electric cars as more and more electric cars to market. The three electric prototypes Meriva will be used to promote the use among the general public of such vehicles environmentally friendly. Weekend post

Opel will use the project to improve its rapid charging system, which allows recharging of the car or in a traditional power outlet or a fast charge of 400 volts. The Meriva has a bi-directional function of electric charge, this means that its batteries can be used to feed the owner's house when the vehicle is not being used.

Opel also plans to improve the electric propulsion system Meriva. Currently riding a 60 kW electric drive which yields (80 hp) with a parmotormáximo of 215 Nm. Thanks to the energy stored in the battery, the Meriva can go without recharging unos65 kilometers and reaches a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour.

The Opel's chief engineer, said, "These demonstration vehicles will be used to study the feasibility, usability and acceptance of electric vehicles among consumers. In our demonstration, we are making an important contribution to the definition of European standards for energy infrastructure, technology for power savings and data communication. "

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems, Research and Innovation and the EnBW energy group, will use the three Meriva for information on how to improve the design of these vehicles. Opel adds this initiative to their global projects on electric cars.
