The enlargement or breast reconstruction with fine s reconstructive or aesthetic has a new option called autologous fat graft.

According to Dr. Maria del Carmen Martínez, autologous fat grafting offers advantages like the fact that abdominal fat tissue used for these purposes aesthetic, allowing a more efficient and sustainable.

He indicated that this procedure can be used in cases of breast asymmetry, breast reconstruction in cancer patients who underwent mastectomy or conservative surgery (one in which removes only part of the breast), congenital diseases such as Poland syndrome in correction of complications arising after a breast implant and breast augmentation in women for those who do not want implants.

This alternative is effective, safe and easy for patients, although there are restrictions on how viable only in people with excess fat in the body somewhere, and for cosmetic breast augmentation to be desired volume should not exceed 120 cc. Furthermore, it is preferable to a gradual injection of small amounts until the desired volume.

"This technique involves the removal of fatty tissue of the abdomen and thighs of the patient, keep to preserve the stem cells it contains, to process the fat removed using a special filter to obtain useful tissue and then injecting the fat tissue live below of the mammary gland (not in the mammary gland), which offers long-term positive results, "said Martinez.

He noted that this new procedure, with the approval of the U.S. health authority (Food and Drug Administration) and Europe, is very promising but by no means an end to breast implants.

However, stated that, as in many surgical procedures, the success of autologous fat graft will depend largely on the skill and specialist knowledge and techniques used.

It also found that the risk of calcifications (which could be confused with cancerous tumors), cysts and other minor alterations can be detected by mammography to be performed one month after surgery, and again at six months in order to avoid unnecessary biopsies.

"Current techniques to diagnose and distinguish microcalcifications caused by fat grafting or a cancer," said the expert, by stating that this shows that it has reached a degree of perfection of both technique and the fat graft diagnosis and follow-up.
