Sandwich Technology the exploitation of the economical advantages of weight reduction has become essential for many industries.

It is well known that the task distribution in sandwich construction enables high stiffness and strength for lightweight panels and parts. Sandwich construction with low cost core materials can not only be more lightweight but also more cost effective, especially because the advancement and automation of production processes results in a reduction of the production cost for lightweight sandwich panels.

The combination of materials to utilize their favorable properties is the basic idea of composites engineering. With a monolithic material, a thickness increase leads to an increase of both weight and material cost of a panel.

Sandwich constructions use the fact that the core of a panel that is loaded in bending does not carry much in-plane stresses and does not represent the surface of the panel. The core can thus be made from a different, more lightweight and/or less expensive material.Sandwich construction takes the different demands on the central layer (core) and surface layers (skins) into account.

The selection and optimisation of the different material layers according to their demands enables to improve the weight and/or cost specific properties of the construction. The potential economic advantage of low cost core materials is as big as the potential weight saving due to low density core materials.

The support of the skins (to prevent relative displacements of the skins out-of-plane and in-plane) is the main task of every sandwich core material, thus a classification should be made based on how this task is fulfilled by the different core materials. Honeycombs are used in aerospace industries since many decades as the preferred core material for very light and strong sandwich panels and structures. From all sandwich core materials honeycombs enable the best mechanical performance per weight, thus they offer the largest potential for material cost savings.

  • Año 6000 A.C.
  • Año 4000 A.C.
  • Año 3000 A.C.
  • Año 2000 A.C.
  • Año 1500 A.C.

key benefits core materials have good dynamic propertie

High Strength to Weight Ratio
The higher strength-to-weight ratio of the sandwich concept can be used in a variety of ways - higher speeds, longer range, greater payload capacity or reduced power demand – all of which give better operating economy. DIAB sandwich composites also offer:
Good Dynamic Strength
Core materials have good dynamic properties making them ideal for applications where shock and impact loads could be experienced.
Low Water Absorption
The Divinycell core material is a closed cell material and is therefore virtual impervious to the ingress of moisture.
Excellent Insulation
The good insulation and acoustic properties of DIAB core materials eliminate the need for additional insulation materials that normally add extra weight to the structure.

This silicone rubber fish sculpture uses an unusual construction technique.  Most of it was done by extruding lines of aluminum-colored silicone in air!  It's like 3-D drawing.   The material is light-weight and basically unbreakable.

I love the see-through potential of this technique, allowing suggestions of internal anatomy.   Now I can make my own fossils!

A fish swimming in the air is like a fish swimming in water.  Hanging, as a means of display also eliminates the need for bases and dedicated floor space.

Advanced core materials, when used with high strength skins,

Advanced core materials, when used with high strength skins, provide the ideal combination of strength, stiffness and toughness. DIAB structural cores and composites sandwich solutions work by increasing the performance of composite parts while optimizing weight.
In principle a sandwich consists of two skins or facings with a core material in between. The skins take up normal stresses and give the structure a hardwearing surface. The core material absorbs the shear stresses generated by loads, distributing them over a larger area.

Compared to single skin laminates, the sandwich concept offers substantial improvements in both flexural rigidity and flexural strength. By doubling the thickness of the core, the improvements are even greater yet the weight increase is negligible.

2,22g MgO ------ 1,342g Mg
100g MgO ------- X= 60,45% de Mg

2,22g MgO ------- 0,878g O
100g MgO -------- X= 39,55% de O

Los sumas: 39,55% O + 60,45% Mg = 100% MgO

Ahora las Lb a g.
1lb son 453,59g
1g son 0,0022lb

Conviertes los 2,22g a libras:
1g ------ 0,0022lb
2,22g ------ X= 0,004884lb de MgO

Ahola los 1,342g a lb
1g ------- 0,0022lb
1,342g ----- X=0,0029524lb de Mg

Ya puedes calcular cuánto hay en 1lb
0,004884lb MgO -------- 0,0029524lb Mg
1lb MgO ------- X= 0,605lb Mg

Conviertes esas lb a g.
1lb ------- 453,59g
0,605lb ------ X= 274,4g de Mg!!!

Why using Fiberglass ?

Why using Fiberglass ?

1
Batch
Raw Material
All material used in the beginning dry solid, and the silica sand is the principal one. Because silica alone would not be suitable to the process, there is other material added to obtain the desired properties.

Batch Plant Operations
There are three main functions of batch plant:
1- Unloading raw material.
2- Weighing and mixing.
3- Distribution.
First, the raw material is delivered by truck and they are emptied into silos in the batch house figure. The operator open and close the bins to allow each material to drop into a scale where the material is weighed. Then the batch is dropped into a mixer where it mixed before it is transferred to the furnace. After that, the batch is elevated to the furnace in batch can. Then the mixed batch is took from the silo above the furnace and feeds it into the melter.
2
Meleter Operation
Furnace
There are two sections:
1- Melting Area
In this section the batch dropped and melt with around 1350-1400 °C. Batch is not actually melted but rather is dissolved into a solution melting point of silica, which is equal 173 1 °C, not reach in furnace.
2 Refining Area
The temperature in this section around 1325 °C. No glass come to this section until it reach the desired melting point, if not that means it will be still in the previous section, this is the purpose of this section. The melter level control system will increase or decrease the speed of the screw feeders to control the melter level. The charges have the capacity to base the rate of feeding between each other.
Forehearth
The glass comes from the melter through channel, which does not contain the bushings. It goes to forehearth, which is the last section where the glass exits through the bushing.
Bushing
The bushing is at high temperature that controls the flow rate of glass as it leaves the forehearth. The molten glass comes out from the melter through a channel, then it goes to the fore hearth, this is the last section where the molten glass exits through an opening called "The Bushing". This varies depend on the density. If we want heavy density that means we need to increase pull rate.
3
Fiberizing
After a hot molten glass is formed from the molten state, it can be quickly cooled into a solid state. This process is the fiberizing process.
Those fiberizers are rotary fiberizers. It receives the molten glass stream from the bushing above, then converts it to solid glass wool of desired diameter The centrifugal force of the spinner drives the glass through tiny side holes of the spinner creating multiple glass steam primaries. These primaries are immediately being attenuated downward by high speed blower air, forming glass wool fiber. Upon exiting the fiberizer, the fiber is cooled by water spray. Then sprayed with binder before they are distributed onto the forming chain. The binder is responsible for keeping the fibers together.
4
Forming
The forming process begins when the fiber leave the fiberizers. There are large fans pull the fiber down to the forming chain where they are sucked down to a very thin pack. Those fans for pulling fibers and binder to the forming chain to avoid bad distribution and back roll.
Forming Section
The Forming fans are used to collect the wool and binder down on the forming chain. Without this suction the fiber would fly all the around forehearth and bury the operation in wool.
5
Oven
After the forming process, the green wool is delivered to one of the following line processes:
1. Main Line Process:
The green?wool is transformed to the oven for curing and after that, it is cooled. Then, it goes to facing and packaging this line is used for producing building insulation plates.
2. Secondary Line Process (Rigid Pipe Section):
In this section, the green wool is rolled around cylindrical mandrels and transferred to the oven for curing and then it goes for facing and packaging. This line is used for producing pipe insulations.
6
Facing & Adhesive
The facing and adhesive used on any product needs to be looked at from a system point of view.
What combination of material facing, and adhesive will meet the customers fitness for use.
7
Chopper & Packing
After that it depends on the kind with the dimension, upon of this will be the setting of chopper.
There are two general categories to determine how the product packaged. These are either material that can be compressed, and material that can not be compressed. Which is also depends on the kind of product.

ACF (Anisotropic conductive film) or ACF tape is an epoxy adhesive system used by electronics industry to make electrical and mechanical connections from drive electronics to substrates

ACF (Anisotropic conductive film) or ACF tape is an epoxy adhesive system used by electronics industry to make electrical and mechanical connections from drive electronics to substrates.
ACF are filled with conductive particles which provides electrical interconnection between pads through the film thickness (z-direction).
The conductive particles are distributed far apart thus not electrically conductive in the plane direction (X&Y) of the film.
ACF interconnect offers cost savings by substituting conventional mechanical connectors or soldering interconnect.
ACF interconnect allows low height and fine pitch which enables high density and miniaturizing of assembly.
Our special conductive particle is made from environmental friendly material (ROHs compliance). It provides good metalic bonding.

How does it work ?

During ACF bonding, a combination of heat & pressure is applied on to chip (FPC/IC) for an appropriate time.

Conductives particles (each 3~30um) are compressed between IC and substrate (glass / PCB) while insulating materials pushed away.

This allows the compressed Ni-Au layer on the particles to conduct electricity between the IC and the substrates (z-axis).

The insulated particles are distributed with a minimum chance of electrical shorting in the x-axis and y-axis.

As the epoxy cures and conductive particles are trapped into permanent compressed form.

The compressed particles, by its elastic nature, are constantly pushing outwards to maintain good electrical conductivity under different environmental conditions.
ACF bonding

Applications

ACF has for many years, been used in glass display applications. Recently, it is also becoming widely used in COF and COB areas.

Examples of ACF applications.
- TAB Bonding (TCP-PCB / TCP-LCD)
- COG Bonding (IC-LCD)
- COB Bonding (IC-PCB)
- COF Bonding (IC-FPC)
- Plasma Display (FPC-PDP)
- Flip Chip Package

These sleeves are comprised of high quality silicone and fibreglass

These quality silicone and fibreglass high temperature electrical insulation sleeves from Jehbco Manufacturing have an operating temperature range of -70°C through to +200°C.

The sleeves are comprised of an extrusion coating of specially formulated silicone rubber, which covers closely braided, environmentally safe, electrical grade fibreglass.

During the manufacturing process the fibreglass is pre-treated, which results in strong adhesion between glass sleeve and silicone coating.

The high pressure coating process ensures the sleeves have a smooth, even surface free from wall thickness variation and pimples and protrusions which is typical of those sleeves created using broken fibres.

The sleeves are flexible and smooth, which allows for cables to be easily and efficiently inserted inside them.

Furthermore, the GS-NG-FR model of sleeves feature flame retardants, and they are self extinguishing.

Physical properties of the silicone rubber include:

  • Durometer (ASTM D2240): 50 ShA
  • Tensile strength (ASTMD412): 960 psi
  • Elongation (ASTMD412): 300%
  • Push back after heat aging (ASTM D350 168 hrs/250°C: No cracks
  • Cut-through/abrasion rest: Good

What does fiberglass insulation really do ?

What does fiberglass insulation really do ?

A well insulated home is one of the most cost-effective ways of saving energy and reducing heating and cooling bills while adding to the thermal and acoustical comfort of a home.
Thermal Comfort
Insulation resists the flow of heat. Heat is a form of energy - it always travels from hot to cold - flowing outward in winter and inward in summer. By reducing heat flow, a properly insulated home uses less energy in winter for heating and less in the summer for cooling.
Acoustical Comfort
Insulation is also an excellent sound absorber as well as an energy saver. When installed in the walls and ceilings, it can reduce the transmission of sound. Sound transmission is noise that travels from room to room - or from home to home - or from appliances such as washers, dryers, heating and air conditioning systems, phones, radios and TV's.
Insulation is one of the more important contributors to the energy efficiency of a home. Make the right choice and start saving money and energy in a more comfortable and more valuable home.
