Quimica - Chemistry: The electric car

The steel industry relies primarily on the automotive industry, in shipbuilding, construction of buildings and appliances. The car is in a time of great change. Given rise to new ways of replacing the engine and explores not only the electric car, but of natural gas, hydrogen and solar.

Currently working especially in the electric car. Thus, the Department of Industry, Innovation, Trade and Tourism of the Basque Government has reached an agreement with Mercedes Benz belonging to the group Daimler, to manufacture at its plant in Vitoria-Gasteiz, a commercial vehicle. The Group Daimler is the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in the world. Starting this year, has decided to manufacture experimental electric vans. This decision brings strong investment in innovation, the order of nine million euros in production facilities of the plant, an innovation that is supported by the Basque Government, as stated in the agreement recently signed. The vehicle to be manufactured will be a van with an electric motor and battery lithium ion. The van may have a nominal autonomy of 130 kilometers. Arguably, no other manufacturer has as many resources to meet customer expectations with respect to individual mobility and sustainable future.

Moreover, the Prime Minister has sent senior executives of major European business groups, with whom he met recently in Madrid, that the great object of the rotating presidency Spanish European Union in the field of industry, is to develop a common strategy to boost electric vehicle. This priority was brought together leading European businessmen belonging to the European Round Table of Industrialist (ERT), a forum comprising senior executives of major companies in the European Union. The Chief Executive stated that for Spain the electric car is "an industrial opportunity, technology, energy and environmental". Regarding the electric vehicle, the key factor is that public policies encourage demand and support its industrialization, with the provision of funds, which may be an example. It seeks to achieve a competitive Europe by 2015.

Furthermore SEAT has also met recently in Martorell over one hundred specialists from companies, universities and technology centers participating in the Zenith GREEN. This innovative project aims to develop relevant technology for electric cars a reality in our country, from the batteries and motors, to the systems charge. The budget GREEN is 34 million and has the support of the Center for Technological and Industrial Development (CDTI), an entity under the Ministry of Science and Innovation. Participants in the meeting the 16 firms involved, and the 16 Universities and Technology Centers, coordinated by the Centro Tecnológico de Manresa (CTM).

Also, the University Research Board of the University of Zaragoza, is working on the design of future electric vehicle. This involves defining the possibilities of interaction that arise between the vehicle electrical and own distribution network, in order to ensure stability. For electric vehicles are also systems of energy storage, which may be used by the electricity grid for power exchange between clients or to improve network stability in times of energetic discharge.
