As a chemist or materials scientist holding with a background in chemistry or materials science, materials chemistry you will join a global R&D function. You assist in the direction and delivery of technical projects involving the testing assessment and development novel technologies and materials.
With full training the purpose of this role is to ensure that fire tests on materials are properly planned, monitored and executed in order to achieve the objective of a successful outcome from the test.
There will be at least 30% travel with this role
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare samples according to standard operating procedures or specific instructions using automatic, semi-automatic or manual equipment Undertakes standard tests on raw materials and products for purposes of quality control or product / process design
- Planning & Management of the fire testing schedule with Fire Protection Management
- Specification of test construction and scope of testing with Fire Protection Management, coordinating testing scope with external 3rd party certification bodies
- Work closely with testing laboratories (mostly within Europe, occasionally outside Europe) on test construction details
- Full responsibility of logistics for test: materials sourcing both of company products and externally-supplied materials such as test specimens, characterising materials prior to testing to ensure they are within specification, installation labour contracting, 3rd party accreditation needs for supervision or production sampling requirements etc. Purchase order placing and cost control.
- Collaborating with the CoE on management of schedules and programs for the in-house fire testing facilities.
- Responsible for acting safely and following all company EHS protocols
Essential requirements
- Experience in materials science, materials chemistry, earth science chemical engineering or related subjects. Some degree of computer literacy (MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Must have commercial experience within an industrial production or commercial research environment in an industrial production or research environment.
- Interest in the fire testing of materials
- Project management skills
- Experience in laboratory testing or quality control environment
- Experience with processing equipment
- Good oral and written communication skill Basic CAD skills
- Computer literacy (MS Office WORD, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Willingness to work overseas (mostly Europe) and unsocial hours
