Cuba reported the first positive case of influenza A

Havana .- A Mexican student studying in Cuba became the first positive case of influenza A detected in this country, today the Ministry of Health of the island.

"Thus far has been a confirmed case of influenza virus AH1N1 (as) the diagnosis made by the Institute of Tropical Medicine, said the agency said in a statement broadcast by Cuban television.

Cuban health authorities reported that several students in various subjects Mexicans started to arrive in Cuba from April 25 and was a "strict monitoring of their symptoms.

This monitoring, the communique continues, "revealed" fourteen Mexican students with catarrhal symptoms as mild, most of which are high in clinical and epidemiological and laboratory observation.

The Cuban authorities said that "all students have been investigated and so far only one confirmed case of influenza A.

The ministry reported that from April 27 until today have been studied to 84 people from eight countries with suspected "clinical epidemiology" and others who had contact with 511 reported cases, and all have given negative results.

"We continue to take all measures necessary and have the resources, capabilities and preparedness of staff to cope with the international situation and its evolution," added the official.

The Cuban government decided on April 29 to suspend direct flights to Mexico after finding the "alert phase" in all directions of national, provincial and municipal Civil Defense.
