WHO sees no reason to raise the pandemic alert for influenza A

The World Health Organization (WHO) is not raising the alert level for pandemic influenza A in the phase up to 6. The institution believes that there is no evidence that there is a sustained transmission of the virus from person to person within a community in a region other than North America.
This was stressed yesterday by deputy director general of the organization, Keiji Fukuda, who said that cases of indirect contagion that has occurred in countries in other regions such as Spain and the United Kingdom not have led to what health authorities consider a sustained transmission. So far, according to the WHO maintains contacts with the governments of both countries, all cases are passengers who have come from Mexico or United States or who are part of his closest circle, but can not said that the infection has spread to the community.
Just yesterday confirmed two new cases of people suffering from influenza A in Catalunya, bringing to 26 the number of patients in this community. The two new infections and two men of 21 and 24 years who presented a clinical picture of mild and evolve positively in their homes. Meanwhile, 15 students and 5 teachers of the Escola d'Art Olot (Garrotxa) who were in quarantine since last Monday returned to class yesterday after obtaining the permission of Health because it has not detected any contamination in the center .

To prevent infection and spread of influenza A, mainly in Central America and Andean countries, the Spanish government paid 3.5 million euros of which will be used to send medical supplies, it was announced yesterday by the Minister of Health, Trinidad Jimenez.
